Romiette and Julio by Sharon M. Draper

I actually had the great pleasure of reading this book a long time ago back when I was in middle school or high school. I didn't realize back then how relevant this book would be to our society today. Romiette and Julio follows the same storyline as the classic tale, Romeo and Juliet, but it has a modern twist. The lovebirds meet online and later find out that they attend the same high school in Ohio.

Draper took the story one step further and incorporated the interracial element, as Romiette is black and Julio is Latino. This was obviously a really good book for me to still remember it years later, and I strongly recommend this book for those of us who refuse to believe that everyone is a catfish! Romiette and Julio is proof that you can find love online and you still love someone when all other people see are your differences.
