This was a well-written and descriptive book. However, I had trouble understanding just what exactly this book was about and what Aubrey's role was in the story. I didn't feel like I had enough details to really get into the story. But it was shocking to read along as everyday life ended, and people grew hopeless about their survival. I'm not sure what the auroras are, but they somehow threaten the existence of life. I have a feeling book two will reveal a clearer plot and will be a much better read.
