However, I soon discovered what I believe to be a connection between the writing style and the main character, Casey’s, own journey of self-discovery. As Casey shed her superficial persona, the narrative blossomed, reflecting her internal growth. Despite my reservations, I found myself drawn deeper bredwards30http://www.blogger.com/profile/16991758985676732139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-18330125617303423222023-11-09T12:45:00.004-05:002023-11-09T12:49:56.270-05:00Love is a Lyric by Michelle MacQueen This was an amazing read! It’s the first book that I have read in a long time. For some reason, I haven’t been reading many novels for the last couple of years. That’s a crazy thought because at one point in time all I wanted to do was read and get lost in whatever story I was reading. This one was a great introduction into the power of the written word. I was captivated by the plot, the bredwards30http://www.blogger.com/profile/16991758985676732139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-24410771916177680722020-06-06T13:02:00.003-04:002023-09-25T08:36:22.878-04:00Archaic by Regan UreArchaic was your typical high school supernatural drama. I found myself getting lost in the constant narrative from Ava, and I felt that the writing could have been more developed so as to draw the reader in more to the story. The ending is what saved this book. Regan left the reader with a huge clif-hanger and I'm actually willing to pick up the second book to find out just what is going on withAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-86279787602046380582019-08-09T22:25:00.013-04:002022-11-19T14:16:52.962-05:00Make Me Stay by Amarie Avant
Make Me Stay was a fantastic read. This awoke a spark in me and spoke to my soul. I've read a lot of great books recently, but there's always a select few that feel as if they were written just for me. This is one of those select few. This is exactly what I enjoy reading and the love I wish to have in my own life. The characters were well-developed and complex, and the plot had so many layers Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-2837551145722912182019-08-09T22:17:00.006-04:002022-11-19T14:17:27.661-05:00Heir of Ra by M. SasinowskiHeir of Ra was an excellent read. I do enjoy a good suspense/mystery and I love a good "conspiracy" theory (Da Vinci Code and National Treasure), so this was definitely right up my alley. I can't say that I was able to predict what would happen as the story heightened, which is a good thing when you think about it. Overall, I really enjoyed the knowledge and respect for history that Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-71858853903934129332019-07-22T20:08:00.009-04:002023-09-25T08:39:02.027-04:00Illogical by LJ VickeryBy now you know that I've read all of the books in the series. I honestly feel that this was my favorite book in the series by far -- I say that with every book; that's how good the writing is! I absolutely love how Vickery comes up with fresh storylines and plots for the gods who are just meeting their chosen. Every story is truly unique and very different from the others while still Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-82072576864903851872019-06-09T19:52:00.007-04:002023-09-25T08:41:41.915-04:00Breaking Rules by Tracie PuckettWhat an emotion-packed read! This was a book that I connected with on a deeper level. As a twin and an intentional loner myself, I totally related to Mandy and everything she was going through. I think Mandy’s depth as a character is something that other readers will be able to connect with as well. For many reasons, I enjoyed reading this book and seeing how all of the relationships changedAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-10783009022444022142019-06-02T16:37:00.005-04:002023-09-25T08:41:51.265-04:00Christmas Crime by Alex A. KingOkay, so I don't typically review the books in the Kat Makris (the 's' is important, y'all!) series by Alex A. King. Mainly, this is because I love the books so much and I want to focus on actually enjoying the book. As reviewers, we can be overly critical of the books we read because we want to leave an honest yet sound review. So, here's my review for this series: I absolutely love every Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-80359403201074293312019-05-31T21:31:00.006-04:002023-09-25T08:43:08.908-04:00Gone on Sunday and Premonition by Tower Lowe
I just finished reading two books that are part of a series by Tower Lowe, and I gotta say I really, really like the writing style. I've said this before that Tower Lowe’s writing style is reminiscent of Maya Angelou’s writing, and I strongly believe that. I love the way that she one, tells a story with just basic plot structure, and two, manages to weave in themes and powerful imagery toAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-74795694666899806692019-02-19T19:27:00.010-05:002022-11-19T14:25:08.759-05:00Tendril Hearts by LJ Vickery[spoilers] Now I am not joking when I say that this was by far my favorite book of the Blue Hills gang (Vickery is giving me great stories back to back!). I loved the mix of elderly, Gods and Goddesses, regular adults, and teenagers. As always, Vickery has found a way to add another complex layer to the plot and keep you wondering what’s coming next. The overall plot is the same (mate all 13 GodsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-16364235447527677282019-02-19T19:19:00.006-05:002022-11-19T14:25:37.930-05:00SOS Sarge by LJ VickeryThis was actually one of my favorite in the SOS Series. For some reason, there seem to be an extra touch of mystery and suspense with Sarge's story. I think this has to do with how strong of a character Brigid is and how she's the only female character so far who matches the men in terms of her line of work. One thing I do want to take the time to shout out is how Vickery incorporates relevant Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-59814615226921205122019-02-05T21:50:00.009-05:002022-11-19T14:26:04.014-05:00Luna Rising by Selene CastrovillaI absolutely love Luna Rising! For some reason, this seemed like the perfect book for me to be reading at this exact moment in my life. The characters were well-developed, witty, and they really made the story. They were people I could identify with and also root for (Luna and Sunny, mainly). The plot had many awkward and humorous layers, I can’t say that I always knew what was coming, which is aAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-9454082887555101122019-01-04T07:53:00.005-05:002022-11-19T14:26:25.285-05:00Keeping Pace by LJ VickeryFrom what I've come to expect from Vickery, this was definitely out of the norm. This book has a different feel then that of the Blue Hills gang, but the overall plot was similar. What's interesting is that these characters are completely different in style and background, but this story still has Vickery's familiar - and famous! - writing and it made the story that much better. Zero was a fantastic read! It put to paper a hint of how a world could be in which there was an infamous Wall. You know, the one Trump is talking about, the one our government is currently shut down over. What I really like about this book is how Whaler mixes politics with fantasy and creates a world that benefits everyone. This book definitely makes you think deeply. I absolutely love the way that the author is able to turn out new storylines and plots and engaging characters. I like how Vickery works in real life disabilities and conditions into her novels and exposes the reader to different ways of living. I definitely recommend this read!

Without giving away too much of the book, I absolutely love that Quinn is deaf. As someone who has a hearing loss, I honestly don't see much representation in the books that I read. It's very humbling to come across a deaf character and to see how much she has survived and to see how well-received sheAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-74289721656157181862018-05-19T18:42:00.004-04:002022-11-19T14:28:36.782-05:00The REM Project by JM LanhamOmg! Okay, this was a pretty cool plot and a great sequel. There were a lot of twists and turns that I was not expecting. Additionally, there were so many new developments that I have literally no clue where the next book will go. I think we definitely learned more about these characters, and even more about our government. Ever. We saw very little of Maity this time around, but for me she completely stole the show! I’m still waiting for her book (can’t you tell?).One of my favorite parts of about this book is how so many people were reunited in book - from all the couples to the families. Louisiana Catch was a novel that spoke to me on so many levels. Ahana is a character that many women can relate to; she’s trying to find her place in an unknown world and discovering who she is after such a devastating past. What makes this book special is the contrast in cultures plus the modern aspect of meeting new friends and finding new love interests online, which is something that we can Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-53659549495032968522018-03-05T18:47:00.006-05:002022-11-19T14:31:43.730-05:00Once Broken by DM HamblinThis was a great story with a well-developed plot. The characters are strong and complex. The beginning of the book started off with good writing and a good flow. My only suggestion is to break the story up into two books and further develop the second half of the book so that it can stand alone on its own. Another suggestion is to do a closer edit to catch some minor typos and grammatical errorsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-79165881407152531902018-03-05T18:43:00.008-05:002022-11-19T14:32:17.475-05:00Erecting Barriers by LJ Vickery
As always, I enjoyed another trip into the mesmerizing world of the Blue Hills gods. It's seriously not fair how cool they are! It’s been a while since I read the last one, but I was quickly able to get back into the flow of things with Vickery’s clever writing. She works past details into the text in a subtle way that guides rather than overwhelms. I’m still waiting for Maitty’s book to roll Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-42505666842458844792018-03-05T18:41:00.003-05:002022-11-19T14:33:05.327-05:00A Thug's Love by Jessica N Watkins
In all honesty, Urban Fiction is a genre that speaks to my soul. It speaks to the deepest parts of me yet shatters my heart with each and every single word as I move through the many stories. A Thug’s Love was a great story with characters I instantly fell in love with. The story and writing was so good that I quickly purchased the second book. I commend the writer for writing such an emotional Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-70022992409770664622018-03-05T18:37:00.005-05:002022-11-19T14:33:40.617-05:00Cheyenne by Lisa L Wiedmeier
Okay, I must start by saying that Cheyenne is a very long read! It reminds me of the last book of the Harry Potter movies - the movie was split into two and the main action was in the second movie. For me, this book does a great job of setting up the next book. A lot happened in Cheyenne, so it is well worth the read. You really get a feel for who the characters are, despite the fact that the Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1456969073675761950.post-29766636107200785672018-03-05T18:29:00.006-05:002022-11-19T14:34:04.671-05:00Tangled Up (Bachelors of Buttermilk Falls Book 2) by Robyn NeeleyA cute, quirky story with a small town vibe and characters that grow on you. The book is definitely good for light reading with a fairly strong plot. If romance is your thing, be sure to check out this book for a magical adventure. Since this is a series, I would definitely recommend getting all four books.

At first, I thought this was the start of a brand new series, but I was pleasantly surprised that there was a connection to SOS Del (a whole new gang to love, by the way). Definitely wasn't expecting that as a twist, but somehow I know I should have been, considering how clever Vickery Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
