Nine Months Abroad by Patrick Szabo
When I first read this book, I had no idea what to expect. But then I picked up the book, I read the first couple of chapters, and I was hooked instantly. You see, what I didn't know was that this book told an amazing story. One of the reason's Matt's story of living in German was so captivating was because it was set in a time that many of us never went through: imagine a world before the heavy use of social media, cellphones, and computers. In telling Matt's story, Patrick demonstrated what it was like to make real, honest connections with the people around you, and what it means to know that the people around you are all you have to count on. From the humorous moments, to the beautiful coming-of-age life lessons, Szabo hit the nail on the head with this amazing and profoundly life changing story. The fact that his writing style mirrors Elie Wiesel's, Night, and Mitch Albom's, Tuesdays with Morrie, makes this book all the more special.
