Green Lake by SK Epperson
This book was one of the most disturbing books I have ever read, showing human nature at its worse (or at its most basic level). The twisted sexual desire, the unrealistically high expectations, and the narrow definition of beauty came together in a way that told a beautiful love story in the mist of such messiness. It's a demonstration of what you would hope to see in the face of such a cruel, cold world. With well-developed and complex characters, it is stories like this that make you wonder about the company you keep.
